Day #8 Civil Rights Movement - Wednesday 5/22

The main goal of today's class is to investigate research so far and begin mapping out the stories.

Let's Breakdown the 30-50 pieces of evidence/information that makeup your story:

Step #1 - Highlight. (10-12 Minutes)
Yellow - Parts of story that are THE BEGINNING
Pink - Parts of story that are THE MIDDLE
Green - Parts of story that are THE ENDING

Step #2 - Rank the information.  At the end of the evidence/information write 1, 2 or 3. (10-12 minutes)
1 - This MUST be in our story
2 - This is LIKELY to be in our story
3 - This could be LEFT OUT of our story.

Step #3 - Look at your 10-15 images from yesterday's video.  Now, look at your BOOK RESOURCE and add to that list.  After looking through your book you should have a minimum of 20 image ideas.

Step #4 - Now that you have looked closely at the events of your topic, some of you may find there are some holes in your research. What parts of your story feel light on information? Add a section under your list of 30-50 called MORE IDEAS TO INVESTIGATE.  Under this heading, write down any questions you have or areas of weakness you have.

Step # 5 - Now it is time to consider how you will tell your story. You are required to have between 4 and 6 chapters in your story. With your partner, you are going to begin mapping out the chapters. What are logical groupings of information and what will each chapter be about?

  • First you will rough this out on scrap paper.
  • Show Mr. Clark or Ms. Carlisto your chapter ideas when done
  • Once approved, transfer info to the large sheet of paper.
    • each chapter must be labeled,
    • include 3-4 bullets of big ideas in the chapter,
    • 3-4 possible images to include
    • the predominant emotions should be labeled too

See our example on the board.
